With the help of major state investment grants, several hydrogen projects in Estonia are moving forward, focusing on green hydrogen and green ammonia. These strong projects demonstrate that Estonia takes hydrogen seriously as a foundation for both energy security and sustainability.
In Paldiski South Harbor, Derivaat NH3 Power plans to build a gas power plant with hydrogen and ammonia production capacity, supported by an €11 million state grant. The project will help reduce energy costs and produce green ammonia primarily as fuel for shipping, as well as for fertilizer and electricity production.
Baltic Hydrogen Group received a €20 million state grant to build a large-scale green hydrogen and ammonia production plant in Sillamäe. The project focuses on channeling green hydrogen into future fuels and integrating ammonia into fuel and fertilizer supply chains, reducing investment risks and increasing reliability in the eyes of financiers.
In total, approximately €44 million in major investment grants will be distributed to help companies mitigate risks and attract capital.
Hydrogen Valley Estonia supports the sustainability and safety of hydrogen projects, links the entire value chain, and creates a collaboration platform between research, industry, and investment partners, strengthening Estonia’s position as a developer of hydrogen technologies.
Participate next week, on October 9–10, at the Tartu Hydrogen Days, where discussions will focus on how hydrogen can strengthen Estonia’s energy security and even support national defense.
