On 9–10 October, the Tartu Hydrogen Days 2025, held at the University of Tartu, brought together scientists, entrepreneurs, and policymakers to discuss the role of hydrogen technologies in strengthening Estonia’s energy security and national defense.
- 9 October – Entrepreneurship day: The discussions focused on innovative hydrogen solutions, the use of fuel cells in the defense sector, data-driven approaches to hydrogen production and logistics, and strategic investments. The opening keynote was delivered by Carmen Font, whose presentation provided an overview of European trends in hydrogen innovation and investment to enhance national energy independence. The day concluded with a discussion led by Ove Oll, researcher in physical chemistry at the University of Tartu, and Professor Allan Niidu, focusing on the importance of hydrogen technologies for Estonia’s energy security and national defense.
- 10 October – Science Day: The second day focused on the scientific and technical aspects of hydrogen, including balancing energy systems, developing new storage materials and catalysts, and the role of education in shaping the future of hydrogen. The day opened with a presentation by Professor Sadegh Seddighi on the role of green molecules in balancing energy systems and enhancing grid security and resilience. The event concluded with a roundtable discussion led by Priit Ilomets, Head of Hydrogen Technologies at Metrosert, on how to build a strong and sustainable hydrogen ecosystem through collaboration.
A heartfelt thank-you to all participants for the inspiring presentations and discussions!
